First domestic heavy duty truck celebrates its 50th anniversary!

On the 10th of April, 1959, outstanding event in the history of the automotive industry of Ukraine took place. This is a date of birth of the first heavy duty truck. This day, 50 years ago, were assembled two dump trucks under a new trade name, “KrAZ”.

On the 1st of May, 1959, the firsts, decorated with flags and banners, were seen in May-day march in Kremenchug.

As far back as in October, 1959, the KrAZ-222 dump trucks “Dnieper” were involved in closure of the river Dnieper during the construction of the Kremenchug hydro-electric station. Afterwards the roar of hundred thousand of engines could be heard at all the large and little construction sites of the Soviet Union including Bratsk and Ust’-Ilim hydroelectric stations, Lenin still mill, known as Magnitka.

Modern powerful trucks keep doing heavy duty in extreme conditions following the glorious past of the KrAZ-222 truck.
