“AvtoKrAZ” restored legendary Katyusha.
The day before Victory Day Governor of Poltava region, V.Asadchev, asked “AvtoKrAZ” Holding Company managers to render assistance in restoration of the Monument to Soviet Warriors in Dikanka village. The monument is ÁÌ-13 “Katyusha” rocket launcher mounted on a pedestal. In mid-April the rocket launcher which fell in decay was delivered to the Kremenchug automobile plant. Much work has been done by specialists of the development shop. Monument has been provided with a new cab and body panels: fenders, side plates, hood, and grille. Truck cab has been glazed and equipped with armored protection. Workers have also changed wheels and painted the truck. Restoration works have been carried out in strict accordance with technical documentation and “Katyusha”’s look on the pictures taken during the war. On 7th of May restored combat vehicle was remounted on the pedestal. On the 9th of May veterans of the Great Patriotic war were frozen with tears when they saw a new ÁÌ-13 looking as it has just rolled off assembly line Reference: In June, 1941, a development and production shop was set up at the Comintern plant in Voronezh to launch ÁÌ-13 rocket launchers baptized later as “Katyusha”. These rocket launchers were widely used by the USSR during World War II. In spite of its tender name, “Katyusha”, famous rocket mortar, became one of the most fearful weapons. |
