December 14, fire-fighting drill in a large storage building was held with deployment of task force. The training at the automobile plant has taken place as part of emergency situations response training session held December 13-14 by SSES in Kremenchug. A great number of special and fire fighting vehicles have been used in drill. Over 50 rescuers, deputies of SSES unit department heads came from across the country to practice quick response to emergency situations.
The main tasks of training include analysis of readiness for appointment of SSES regional office subordinate units and pooled asset, sharing of experience in emergency response organization and assessment of trainees professional qualifications.
According to Head of Service Organization, Training and Emergency Response Centre at SSES Civil Defence and Rescue Service Support Department Colonel of Civil Defence Service Vladislav Kovgan, this training has been organized to show proper placement of fire fighters and equipment, how to choose proper direction for fighting fires at certain buildings and facilities. Given that fires occur more frequently at warehouses, the decision was taken to hold drill in large storage building available at Kremenchug Automobile Plant as part of workshop for department head deputies. Firefighters used 15 special vehicles, mostly fire tanker trucks, fire aerial ladder trucks, vehicles for water delivery, articulated boom lift and non-drinking water bag. Actions of rescuers in fire-fighting have been discussed in details after fire extinction, mistakes have been revealed and everyone could get benefit.
Realistic training in emergency response was held in realistic environment with smoke, sirens and use of extinguishing mediums. During the training held at the automobile plant on the eve of workshop skills have been honed to perfection.
After the training the rescuers have been shown a lineup of new vehicles manufactured by the automobile plant including new KrAZ-5401 chassis cab truck built in accordance with specification attached to SSES bidding documents. This chassis cab truck is used for conversion into fire fighting vehicle. The visit of Ukrainian rescuers to “AutoKrAZ” closed with demonstration drive over obstacles of the company’s proving ground and commemorative pictures.
According to trainees such trainings are very effective because explosions at big military warehouses and other facilities are not uncommon in Ukraine. Tragic resonance of Bakhmut, Krivoy Rog, Svatovo, Balakleya, Kalinovka, etc., makes these trainings a priority for rescuers. It is obvious that these steps will help improve professional qualifications of rescuers and emergency response.
